What we know so far as six dead and five injured in horror bus fire in Switzerland as police probe suspected arson attack
- Six people have died and at least five others were injured in a horror bus fire in Switzerland this evening.
- Emergency services raced to the scene in Kerzers, Fribourg, where the entire postal bus was engulfed in flames several metres high. By the time firefighters arrived, only a charred shell remained of the vehicle.
- Police have launched a probe into the tragedy amid reports it may have been an “arsonist act”. Officers said they received information that a person had doused themselves with gasoline before setting the fire.
- “We have information that a person was responsible for the fire,” police confirmed. A spokeswoman said a scene will remain in place “throughout the night” as investigations continue.
- The bus was travelling from Düdingen to Kerzers when the blaze erupted just before the final stop. Three of the injured were taken to hospital while two others were treated at the scene.
- Police declined to comment on whether a suspected perpetrator was among the dead or wounded, saying: “We are not releasing any information on that at this time.”
