Police said they received reports that a ‘man had stabbed multiple people’ before leaving the area on foot and authorities have now arrested one person after the incident
One person has died and two others are in a critical condition after a stabbing, police said.
New South Wales (NSW) police said the three people were stabbed west of Sydney, Australia on Tuesday, February 17. Emergency services responded to reports of a stabbing in Merrylands, about 30 kilometres outside of Sydney city centre at about 10am.
Officers linked to Cumberland Police Area Command attended the scene and were told a man stabbed multiple people before leaving the area on foot.
NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and treated three people for serious injuries.
A spokesperson for New South Wales Police said: “The deceased is yet to be formally identified.
“Police have established a crime scene and have commenced an investigation.
“Following inquiries, a man was arrested on Smythe Street, Merrylands, and has been taken to Granville Police Station.
“As inquiries are ongoing, anyone with information is asked to contact Cumberland Police Area Command or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
