WARNING: DISTRESSING CONTENT. As the Magaluf ‘wolf pack’ rapists are sentenced, the Mirror takes a look at the BH Mallorca hotel, where the horror assault occured just a short walk away from the lively strip

Located just a nine-minute walk from the Playa de Magaluf beach, BH Mallorca was once a popular hotel amongst young, lively holidaymakers looking to make the most of the sunny Spanish town’s famed party scene.

But in the summer of 2023, it became known for a very different reason, with a brutal group rape taking place in room 108, just as dawn was breaking over the nearby Magaluf strip.

An 18-year-old girl was attacked by a “wolf pack” of men at the hotel, who laughed and hurled vile insults as they filmed the degrading assault. The twisted gang even reportedly invited complete strangers in from the corridor to join them, offering “free sex”.

The harrowing incident has shocked locals and tourists alike, and now it has emerged that other guests have expressed concerns about safety at the adults-only resort, complaining of break-ins, “dirty” conditions, and out-of-control visitors.

The Mirror can reveal that BH Mallorca, as it was once known, is no more, and the foam parties and all-night drinking have long stopped. The hotel closed its doors in 2024, just over a year after the horror incident, with the final “legendary BH pool party” marking its end. But the memories of the hotel continue to haunt those who once stayed there.

Once part of the Palladium Hotel Group, it had since been transformed and rebranded to the Fergus Club Mallorca Waterpark by the Fergus Group, which didn’t own the site in question in its previous iteration.

With pool parties, resident DJs, and a swim-up bar stocked with cocktails, it’s easy to see why the hotel attracted so many fun-loving twentysomethings over the years, with its proximity to super-club BCM being a particular draw. Taking to Facebook in March 2024, DJ Tom Zanetti said of its closure: “I have such amazing memories, honestly, what a day it was every single time. I don’t care what anyone says, it was the best pool party in the world.”

But a number of those who’ve stayed at the resort were horrified by their experience – and the conditions.. Complaints ranged from hygiene grievances, with reports of “dirty prison-style blankets” and unflushed poo in the toilets, to the “utter dog dirt” food that one person claimed had been left out all day, as well as grave safety concerns.

The array of one-star reviews read more like chapters in a particularly disturbing Stephen King novel. One person wrote: “The services at the hotel were actually decent, if you were on death row with the hope of ending it all as soon as possible.”

Another alleged: “We were constantly met with demoralising and appalling services that barely met basic human rights and were reminiscent of third world countries”.

Amid the photographs of seemingly undercooked pork and shabby paintwork, there were a number of concerns raised over the standards of safety in place. One furious former guest warned: “A third issue we had with the room is someone broke into it and strangely did not take anything but left all their belongings.

“When we told reception and security, they were not phased and did not offer any help at all. Obviously, two of us did not feel safe in that room, knowing someone had been in and could get back in, so they had to stay in our room again. We went and told one of the reps the next morning, and he again offered no help; he just said, ‘Drunk people do weird things’. None of the reps acknowledged us whilst we were there, apart from on the last day when we were waiting to leave.”

Another claimed: “Security was mediocre. There are signs up advising against illegal ticket sellers operating in the area – these sellers were allowed to enter the hotel and knock on our door trying to pitch us tickets to a bar crawl, which may or may not have actually existed.”

And a third person alleged: “When me and my friend returned from our night [out], we came to our room to find a boy’s clothes in our room, and some of our belongings taken. Luckily, nothing in the safe but chargers etc were taken. We went to inform reception and the guard said he saw the door locked on his ‘patrol’ but not once the whole week did he ever patrol they just stand in reception. No one was concerned that someone had broken into our room, and we felt unsafe, so once again we had to stay with our friends.”

There were also various mentions of locks being broken in both bedrooms and bathrooms, while one individual claimed to have “witnessed a young lady looking scared and confused as three big security staff surrounded her, pushed her around and bullied her while she was in the reception area late at night.”

Although it stood in a renowned party area, the noise appears to have been unbearable for many guests, with reports of 4 am chanting and “screaming” until 5 am. One person wrote: “If you’re expecting to get any sleep while you’re here, think again. There are people screaming and shouting for the entire night, unless you’re in a coma, sleep is unlikely.”

Others who’d requested balconies were deeply disappointed by the uninspiring views of “a dirty smelly alley and dumpsters”.

Nowadays, the party-heavy site has undergone a significant rebrand and is instead known as the Fergus Club Mallorca Waterpark Hotel. A world away from BH Mallorca’s intense eight-year run, this new and updated venue focuses on family-friendly holidays, complete with candy coloured slides for little ones and even a kids’ club.

Instead of stag parties and rowdy 21sts, families now fill the rooms of the hotel, which is regularly praised for its cleanliness. There are, however, still some complaints about the noise that spills over from the streets of the party town, which may take some time to revamp its image.

The Mirror has reached out to the Fergus Group and the Palladium Group for comment.
