Ana Parra and her half-brother Daniel Parra met when she was 20 and fell instantly in love
Ana Parra was 20 when she first met her estranged half-brother, Daniel Parra – and the attraction was immediate.
Now, the Spanish pair, who have two children together, are campaigning to alter the law so they can legally wed.
Ana had always been aware that she had a half-brother somewhere. As a child, she knew her father had deserted her to be with another woman, with whom he had children.
One of those children was Daniel, who revealed: “Someone had told me that maybe I had a sister out there, but my father never told me, it was something he wanted to hide.”
Intrigued to meet her sibling, Ana located Daniel on Facebook and suggested they meet. They claim it was love at first sight.
“We didn’t want to realise it,” Ana explained, “we were angry with ourselves because it was hard to admit and break that taboo – we are siblings even though we didn’t feel that way.”
Their first kiss happened at a party they both attended. Ana said: “We were partying, we approached each other slowly and gave each other our first kiss.”

Ana recalls feeling “ashamed” about what happened, but Daniel characterised the moment as transformative. She said: “That kiss broke all barriers, marked a before and after, it was like a reality check.”
A few days later, they arranged to meet again, yet were hesitant to acknowledge their romantic desire.
Daniel confessed: “Imagine liking a girl and, for a moral reason, being forbidden to be with her. It’s really hard to deal with.”
It was only after a trip to London, where the duo felt they could behave as a couple without judgement, that they chose to reveal their relationship.
Ana reminisced: “That was the first time we can say that we behaved, in public, like a real couple. We went out to dinner, we took walks. It was like an explosion of freedom.”
Remarkably, the couple opted to appear together on TV, with Anna explaining: “We didn’t feel like telling everyone our story one by one, so that’s why we decided to tell it this way.”
However, they were met with a barrage of online abuse over their incestuous relationship. “There are people who have written to us on social media telling us that we’re going to burn in hell,” Ana revealed.
This did not dissuade the sibling-lovers, who now have two children. Both, they assert, are “perfectly healthy”, despite the increased risk of a recessive disease due to the parents being genetically related.
In Spain, consensual incest is legal. However, the Spanish Civil Code prohibits marriage between relatives.
Daniel and Ana wish to change this and hope that, someday, they will be able to marry.
“Societies must advance and not cling to traditionalism,” Ana proclaimed. “Homosexuals were also not allowed to marry and now they can.
“We love each other and that is what should prevail. We are not harming anyone. That is why we want people to know our story.”
