WARNING, GRAPHIC CONTENT: A horrified young woman in her 20s screamed five words after her mum allegedly killed her partner, who she referred to as her father, at their home in Bilbao last week
A woman has been accused of slicing off her partner’s penis and stabbing him to death — before her horrified daughter shouted five words when a patrol car arrived at the gruesome murder scene.
The suspect is a Venezuelan woman called Maria, 55, who had been in a relationship with the victim, Luis M, 67, for around five years.
Despite being born in Portugal, Luis spent most of his life in Bilbao, Spain, where he shared a flat with Maria.
However, the apartment in the Uribarri neighbourhood became a grisly crime scene on Friday, January 30, when Luis “suffered a violent death”, according to a Department of Security press release. The statement added: “Police in Ertzaintza went to a house in the Uribarri neighborhood of Bilbao after receiving a report of a suspected homicide.”
According to reports in Spain, Maria, who has two daughters in their 20s, allegedly confessed to the killing when police arrived. It was Maria’s daughter who called for help after her mother reportedly told her what happened early in the morning.
And when the first patrol car showed up, the young woman, who was reportedly fond of Luis, reportedly shouted in the street: “My mother killed my father!”
Officers were said to have found the body of Luis inside and he had several stab wounds, including on his neck and other body parts. His genitals had also been cut off and reports in Spain have suggested the couple were rowing over jealously.
The suspect was led away in handcuffs and was pictured wearing a maroon jacket before she was driven to the Ibarrekolanda police station for questioning.
A murder investigation was launched and neighbours from the flats above and below the couple confirmed that they heard screams from the home.
The victim’s body was seen being removed from the home at around midday before it was taken to Bilbao Courthouse for an autopsy to be performed.
Luis, who reportedly had three sons and several grandchildren, owned a bar in the area and Leydi, the owner of a bakery and friend to the couple, told El Diario Vasco: “I’m in shock. We never expected this, especially not in the way it happened.
“When I left work, I always had a beer or a glass of moscato on the terrace with them. They talked, they laughed. There must be more to this.”
A taxi driver in the area meanwhile said: “No one knows what goes on inside people’s homes. They seemed like a normal couple, not toxic in the least. A separated man who gets together with a new woman.
“We’re shocked. No one saw this coming.”
It was reported yesterday (February 1) that Maria was now being held in hospital for cuts and minor injuries, which have been attributed to Luis’s resistance during the suspected knife attack.
A duty judge has reportedly been to see Maria in hospital to take a statement before he agreed to her provisional imprisonment without bail. An investigation remains ongoing.
