- Gisèle Pelicot has broken her silence with a devastating memoir revealing the full horror of her decade-long ordeal at the hands of her monster husband.
- The 73-year-old grandmother’s book ‘A Hymn to Life: Shame has to Change Sides’ exposes how Dominique Pelicot drugged her and invited more than 50 men to rape her while she was unconscious. Police found over 20,000 videos and pictures of the abuse stored on his laptop under sickening file names like ‘Abuses’ and ‘her rapists’.
- The horrific revelations have torn the family apart, with daughter Caroline letting out a “shriek of anguish” when told of her father’s crimes. Gisèle recalled: “My daughter was breaking down. The words I was saying to try to calm her were not getting through.”
- For ten years, Gisèle suffered mysterious health problems including memory loss and gynaecological issues, even jokingly asking her husband: “Doumé, you haven’t been drugging me, have you?” He burst into tears and made her feel guilty – all while continuing to drug and rape her for seven more years.
- During the trial, Gisèle bravely waived her anonymity to face her “pack of rapists” in court. She watched in disgust as the defendants “high-fived each other” and bought “rounds of beer” during breaks, convinced they had done nothing wrong.
- Despite the nightmare, Gisèle has found love again with retired Air France steward Jean-Loup, whom she calls her “saviour”. She plans to visit Pelicot in prison to demand answers, writing: “I need answers; he owes me that much.”
- Pelicot was sentenced to 20 years behind bars in December 2024, while 50 other defendants received a collective 400 years in prison.
