Your guide to what Trump’s second term means for Washington, business and the world
The Trump administration is considering appointing a top Treasury official as US ambassador to Germany, as it moves towards filling a key position in a major European capital that has been vacant for more than one year.
Three senior US officials said John Hurley, the Treasury under-secretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, was interviewing with the White House for senior ambassadorial positions, including for envoy to Berlin.
Hurley has been in discussions with the White House about his next role in recent days, according to the officials. They said he would remain in his role at Treasury pending more talks with White House officials next week.
