Several buildings have been evacuated in Paris due to ‘bomb threats against multiple locations’.
Sniffer dogs have been deployed following reports that “several emails” were sent to various authorities which contained “threats to blow up various locations” in the French capital.
Montparnasse Tower is one of the landmarks reportedly targetted. According to social media reports, police have cordoned off the area as security teams sweep the area. Locals authorities have also reportedly urged people to avoid the 15th Arrondissement, where the skyscraper is located. Sciences Po Paris is among the places affected.
Paris police told Le Figaro that at least one report was made just before 6pm tonight. It concerned possible explosive devices at various locations in the city. Police are currently carrying out evacuations at a number of locations. A police source told actu Paris: “As a security measure, some establishments requested evacuation and a verification process.”
On Wednesday, the headquarters of France’s hard-left France Unbowed party was evacuated after a bomb threat, national coordinator Manuel Bompard said.
“The national headquarters of LFI have just been evacuated following a bomb threat. Police services are on site. All employees and activists are safe,” the party’s Mr Bompard said on X.
The situation came hours after authorities arrested two more suspects over the fatal beating of Quentin Deranque, a far-right political activist, last week. The 23-year-old died after sustaining a severe brain injury following an attack by at least six people.
