A mother-of-two was found stuffed in a fridge by her boyfriend after being strangled and dumped in a forest – after he apologises for the ‘suffering’ he has caused
A warped killer who stuffed his girlfriend’s body in a fridge has learned his fate.
Christopher Blevins, 46, strangled 50-year-old mother of two Laura Hughes to death before placing her remains in a fridge and dumping it in a forest. Her body was wrapped in a sleeping bag, secured into the fridge with straps and covered by a rug.
This week, Blevins was sentenced to 17 years in prison afer pleading guilty to first-degree aggravated manslaughter.
Surveillance footage and a license plate reader caught Blevins’ pickup truck carrying what appeared to be a refrigerator around the time of the murder. Laura’s body was discovered on 22 December 2024.

In a bizarre statement read by his lawyer, Blevins, from New Jersey, US, said he “didn’t mean for it to happen,” PEOPLE reports. Apologising for the “suffering” he “casued,” the killer said: “I do not know why it happened. I wish I could do things differently, in that I just left.”
The pathetic excuse will be another blow for Laura’s distraught family, and the two children she leaves behind.
Cornel Alston, the father of Hughes’ two children, spoke powerfully at the sentencing and told the killer: “Although there is no amount of time that will bring [Hughes] back, you should never be able to walk among the free. This death will never be off my children. They will carry this the rest of their lives. My kids should never have to worry about someday, their mother’s killer will walk down the same side of the sidewalk.”
Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay praised the police investigations in pinning down the killer and said: “We must commend our partners at the New Jersey State Police and Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office for their steadfast investigative work in State v. Christopher Blevins.
“Through persistence, investigators uncovered the truth behind the death of 50-year-old Laura Hughes, whose remains were discovered in Belleplain State Forest, leading to Blevins’ guilty plea. Their professionalism and commitment resulted in the defendant being held accountable.”
