Kodikunnil Suresh, MP, has lodged a formal complaint with Om Birla, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, and the chairperson of the Lok Sabha Privilege & Ethics Committee, alleging a serious protocol violation in connection with the foundation stone laying ceremony of a 50 MW floating solar power project at West Kallada in Kollam. The project, implemented by National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC), falls within the Mavelikkara Parliamentary constituency represented by Kodikunnil Suresh.

However, the MP said that no prior intimation or invitation was extended to him regarding the foundation stone laying ceremony which was performed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 11 through video conferencing.

In his complaintKodikunnil Suresh pointed out that excluding the sitting Member of Parliament of the concerned constituency from an official government function of such importance constitutes a serious breach of established protocol and parliamentary conventions. Mr. Suresh has requested the Lok Sabha Speaker and the Ethics Committee to examine the matter and take appropriate action against the authorities responsible for the lapse, and to issue necessary directions to ensure that due protocol and Parliamentary conventions are strictly followed in future government programmes involving Members of Parliament.
