The announcement comes as the Middle East enters its third day of conflict which has seen airstrikes across the Gulf region since the initial attack on Iran on Saturday

Israel has launched what it has termed an “offensive campaign” against Iran-backed Hezbollah.

The announcement comes as the Middle East enters its third day of conflict. Iran has retaliated with strikes on several countries across the Gulf after joint US-Israel strikes on Iran on Saturday, February 28 and the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Hezbollah’s political leader Mohammad Raad has reportedly died in an Israeli airstrike, Saudi news outlet Al-Hadath reported.

Spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces to the Arab Media, Lieutenant Colonel Ella Waweya, shared in a post on X early on Monday, March 2, that the country had launched the campaign.

“We have launched an offensive battle against Hezbollah,” said Chief of Staff, Major General Eyal Zamir.

“We are not just on the defensive lines but are advancing to the attack.”

“We must prepare for many days of fighting; we need strong defensive preparations, and continuous offensive preparations in waves of raids, and of course, throughout, exploiting operational opportunities.”

Several news outlets have reported that Israeli strikes in Lebanon early on Monday reportedly kill 31 people and wounded 149 others.

The Israeli military told residents of about 50 towns and villages in the neighbouring country to evacuate on Monday.

It had warned of imminent attacks against Hezbollah after rocket fire against Israel.
