BRS working president K T Rama Rao on Thursday accused the Congress government of razing the huts and houses of poor people during a demolition drive at Vinoba Navodaya Colony in Velugumatla in Khammam on Tuesday, rendering hundreds of families homeless.
The Congress dispensation has unleashed anarchy by destroying the roofs over the heads of poor people, he alleged saying the displaced poor families were in possession of valid pattas issued by the Andhra Pradesh Bhoodan Board, dated April 23, 2014.
He was speaking to the mediapersons after interacting with the displaced families at Velugumatla in Khammam on Thursday. Showing the copies of ‘land pattas’, Mr Rao said the AP Bhoodan Board had issued pattas of each 100 square yards to as many as 1895 poor people at Velugumatla in April, 2014, before the formation of Telangana.
The eviction drive left the poor families belonging to SCs, STs, BCs, and Minorities in the lurch, he charged, pointing out that the displaced families were unable to come to terms with the demolition of their dwellings at a time when the Intermediate exams were underway.
He alleged that three realtors patronised by the key ruling party leaders of Khammam district were behind the whole episode. Mr Rao asserted that the BRS would stand by the displaced families and support them in their pursuit of exploring legal options to secure justice. The party would help them by constructing temporary shelters and amplifying their voices, he said.
