It’s hard to imagine being this desperate to nab the final chicken on the shelf.

A 42-year-old teacher has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a customer in a tussle for the last rotisserie bird in a supermarket. Police claim Ashley Murff punched another shopper in the face in front of multiple witnesses, and even spewed a vile racial slur.

The victim claims she was waiting in a queue for a chicken when she attacked by Murff, who was in line waiting behind her. The teacher’s alleged racist comment is said to have sparked a verbal argument between the pair.

According to the shopper caught up in the row, while they were both arguing, she tried to snap a photo of Murf. It was at this stage where Murff allegedly punched the victim in the face, according to local media. The pair are said to have fought until they were eventually separated in the Valentine’s Day incident.

The victim’s friend told a local outlet that her friend was waiting for a chicken and took an extra one for an older lady who was not able to wait in the queue. She said: “There was an elderly lady that didn’t have the ability to stand in line, and my friend offered to just get a chicken for her. People are allowed to do that. You’re allowed to get more than one chicken.”

That’s when the teacher allegedly called the victim a racial slur. “The situation highlights why it matters what people believe in, the biases that they carry. Those beliefs don’t just exist in private. They show up in classrooms,” the pal sa.d

The school Murff is employed by has reportedly announced that the teacher has been suspended from her position with pay pending an investigation.
