Emergency services rushed to a housefire in Spain and rescued a man from a balcony – a British woman was found dead outside the home with injuries reportedly not consistent with a fire
The body of a British woman was found outside a burning rural home while her husband screamed for help.
Emergency services rushed to a farmhouse near Almeria, Spain, when an inferno broke out at around 8.25am on February 7. A 66-year-old British woman was tragically found dead at the scene after the horror blaze engulfed the property in the town of Antas. Authorities found the woman’s dead body outside opposite the home while her husband, 76, was stuck on a balcony, covered in bars, and screaming for help while the fire raged on. Rescuers saved the man by removing the railings on the balcony with a crowbar before bringing him down to safety.

Police in Spain confirmed the victim was British but they have not released her name or identity. Firefighters said her death was not related to the blaze at the home, according to The Olive Press.
Authorities said she did not suffer smoke inhalation and her injuries were not consistent with those common from a blaze. An investigation has been launched into the tragic death and the cause of the fire, while police wait on medical reports and information.
Local reports said the husband was rushed to hospital after the rescue and was in a critical condition following heavy smoke inhalation, according to Euro Weekly News.
Police found the couple’s son and his girlfriend at the scene when they arrived. It is not clear if the son and partner were already at the home when the fire started or if they arrived to the scene after.
The local Mayor, Pedro Ridao, said authorities were waiting on an autopsy report to establish the 66-year-old woman’s cause of death.
This comes after a fire ripped through a hospital in Cartagena, Spain, forcing patients to flee to safety. The blaze ripped through several floors of the hospital while a massive cloud of smoke lingered over the city, in November last year.
Staff and the sick were urgently evacuated while videos online showed patients, some still ill in hospital beds, being rushed out of the building with their vital equipment attached.
The fire – the second at the hospital inside ten years – is believed to have started at around 7:50am local time but the extent of the blaze’s rapid spread caught hospital workers by surprise, according to Spanish publications.
Thankfully everybody inside the hospital at the time managed to escape without injury. It was said, the fire broke out during shift changes and when a large number of patients were arriving for appointments.
Staff were praised for their quick response to getting people out safely. Evacuated patients were also given blankets to keep them warm as they were placed in a safe area outside
