Lucy Harrison had flown from her home in Warrington, UK, for a holiday with her father when she was fatally shot after a row about US President Donald Trump

Lucy Harrison was just 23-years-old when she was shot in the chest by her own father. Lucy, from Warrington, UK, was visiting her dad Kris Harrison in the US when he shot her after a row about Donald Trump on January 10, 2025.

Harrison was investigated for suspected manslaughter but no charged were brought after the grand jury in Collin County declined to indict him. Now, an inquest has been held at Cheshire Coroner’s Court, picking apart the tragic timeline of that fateful day.

Boohoo employee Lucy flew with her boyfriend, Sam Littler, to stay with her dad in Prosper, Texas, on December 28, 2024. Harrison had moved there when Lucy was a child and had a documented battle with alcoholic addiction. Littler told how Lucy would often get upset when her dad talked about owning a gun.

On the morning that they were due to fly back to the UK, Littler said a row broke out between Lucy and her dad about US President Donald Trump, who was due to be inaugurated. Lucy asked her dad,”How would you feel if I was the girl in that situation and I’d been sexually assaulted?” Harrison is said to have replied that he has another two daughters who live with him so would not be too upset.

Littler said Lucy – who had a first class degree in fashion buying and merchandising – became ‘quite upset’ and ran upstairs.

Littler recalled: “That morning I was technically working, The girls were outside playing in the snow but that morning Heather [Harrison, Kris Harrison’s wife] was working in the other room, I was working in the kitchen. It was quite wholesome. There was a big argument that morning, it was during the time Trump had been inaugurated, off the back of that Kris and Lucy had a big argument and it led to Lucy running upstairs upset.”

He immediately went to ‘console’ her and they eventually came back downstairs to play in the snow before their 3pm flight. Fighting back tears, Sam continued: “We came in and got changed and got ready to go. We packed up pretty early in the morning. Lucy was emotionally drained, there were lots of ups and downs.

“We had packed and brought the suitcases down, they were in the garage area. We were ready to go half an hour, 45 minutes before [we were due to leave]. She was looking forward to seeing her mum and coming home. I was at on the couch with the girls and [Harrison’s wife] Heather was at the breakfast table.

Littler said that Harrison then took Lucy by the hand to his bedroom, 10 to 15 steps away from the sofa he was sat on. “The only thing I heard was a loud bang 15 seconds after he took her by the hand,” he told the inquest.

He initially thought it was a joke, until he heard Harrison scream for his wife. “Me and Heather looked at each other and could tell the seriousness of it. I remember running into the room and Lucy was on the floor near the entrance to the bathroom and Kris was screaming nonsense, in my recollection of it. He was screaming ‘I don’t know, I don’t know, call 911’.”

Sam dialled 911 while Mrs Harrison administered CPR to Lucy. Harrison, who did not attend the inquest, submitted a statement to the hearing and claimed that he and Lucy had been watching a report about gun crime and he offered to show her his. He told how he kept a Glock 9mm semi-automatic handgun in his bedside cabinet for ‘security’. He said: “As I lifted the gun to show her I suddenly heard a loud bang. I did not understand what had happened. Lucy immediately fell.” He insisted that he could no remember whether his finger was on the trigger.

After being questioned at the scene, Harrison – who has previously been to rehab for alcohol addiction – lied to police and told them he hadn’t been drinking. Lois Norris, representing Lucy’s mum, stated that Mr Harrison was “historically an alcoholic”

But in his statement to the inquest, he said that he had ‘briefly lapsed’ because he was upset about his daughter going home and had drunk about 500ml of white wine. CCTV from a 7-11 shop showed him buying two 500ml bottles of Chardonnay just before 1pm that day.

Harrison said he “fully accepted” the consequences of his actions. “There isn’t a day I don’t feel the weight of that loss, a weight I will carry for the rest of my life,” he said.

Lucy’s mother, Jane Coates, spoke movingly about her daughter during an emotional sit-down interview with the ECHO. Paying tribute to her daughter, she said: “It’s so hard to capture who she was, and who she still is, using words because they just don’t come close.

“She was full of energy and life, and she was bold and brave. She was so emotionally intelligent, she was able to feel everything and she wasn’t ashamed of feeling everything.”
