Police have said there are multiple victims after an active shooter incident at a school which has left at least one suspect dead.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Staff Sergeant Kris Clark said there are multiple victims after the shooting incident in Tumbler Ridge, a remote area in Canada.

Police have entered the school in Tumbler Ridge, situated at the foothills of the Rockies in British Columbia, following the incident and an air ambulance has been dispatched following the incident, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported.

The RCMP issued an emergency alert for residents of Tumbler Ridge and its surrounds at 3:15 pm on Tuesday, February 10, after reports of an active shooter at a school.

“Those in Tumbler Ridge area are asked to stay inside and shelter in place, lock your doors and refrain from leaving your home or business at this time,” the RCMP reportedly said.

The incident was still unfolding as of 5:20 pm local time, according to reports.

Police have described the suspect as a female in a dress with brown hair, local news outlet CJDC-TV News reported.

The RCMP confirmed the suspect involved in a shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School has been found dead.

“The original suspect is believed to have been located deceased. Work continues to determine whether a second suspect was involved and the total number of victims involved,” said Staff Sergeant Kris Clark.

Police are determining whether a second suspect was involved in the incident. CJDC-TV News reported that every available police officer in the region is on the way to Tumbler Ridge.

“The district is aware of a lockdown and secure and hold at Tumbler Ridge Secondary and Tumbler Ridge Elementary schools,” School District 59 said.
